As a very hot July draws
to a close with a big cooling front blowing in flooding rains, August is about
to heat up for our chapter. Normally we do not have any activities scheduled in
late summer, however this year we have 2 social activities: a member happy hour and the 20th
Century Club reunion at Chima in Tyson’s on August 8th, and an
allied professionals happy hour and corn hole tournament at Courthaus Social in
Arlington the following week on August 15th.
NexGen held their annual retreat on July 26th
at an Airbnb in Great Falls. It was the largest attendance yet for their
retreat. CFP Board held a forum on their
updated standards of professional conduct on July 20th with the
comment period ending in August. Professionals have more time to weigh in on
the changes. We also held a CE happy hour at Bazins in Vienna. Our speaker was
Dan Reilly of Thornburg Investments on “The Current and Long Term Case for
Overseas Investing” with an insightful look at economic and market cycles and
market valuations.
In September we head back
into our luncheon CE programs on September 14th where we have Mary
Beth Franklin from Investment News to talk about Medicare and Tax Costs for
Retirees. And, we have an ethics course before that luncheon presented by Rita
Cheng at 9 am. For once an Ethics CE class that isn’t at 6:30 am in the
morning! Register separately for each part of that day.
Enjoy the rest of your
summer, but make some time for your colleagues and network. Good luck to the
Nationals who lead the division by 12 games. Perhaps they will make the post
season very interesting for local fans.
Remember we are always
looking for people to get involved and volunteer even if it is just one thing. If you are interested in
getting involved on committees and/or on the board in 2018, please contact
Howard Pressman, our current President-elect, and discuss opportunities for you
for the next year.
Have
a wonderful summer vacation! See you soon!
Sincerely,
Bryan
