President’s Message
Rose Price, CFP®
The year is flying by; I cannot believe it’s May
already. We hope you and your families
are doing well and staying healthy. We
have had a busy year to date, and our event schedule is packed with great
events. We are
looking forward to holding our first in person event with our Annual Charitable
Golf classic on Thursday, June 24, at 1757 Golf Club. The event will have a shotgun start at 12:00.
This will be our first in person event
in over 15 months and will give us an opportunity to get outside and enjoy some
golf and connect. We will, of course, be
following all precautions, and 1757 has several protocols in place. We hope you will join us in our annual
charitable event that raises funds for the Foundation of Financial planning and
our other pro bono activities. Please
visit the website https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp
for opportunities to participate and sponsor.
While we will be hosting the in-person golf event in
June, we plan to keep our other events virtual at least through June as we
continue to evaluate gathering in an indoor setting. We will host two virtual events in May
starting with a double header event on Tuesday, May 13 at 11:00 with 2 CFP and
CIMA CE credits. Our first speaker Brad
Pineault will discuss the “Light Switch” Economic Recovery sponsored by Gold
Sponsor Fidelity Investments Advisors. Mary Downing will kick off the next hour covering
Social Security and Medicare- What you didn’t know to ask sponsored by Gold
Sponsor Amundi Pioneer.
On May 20, Cozy
Wittman will present on FASFA changes that will impact your clients. The COVID relief bill passed at the end of
2020 included some significant changes to the FASFA; Cozy will outline and
present strategies for clients. She will also review the changes to the College
process including how colleges award scholarships, ACT testing cancellations
and rules for how/when colleges can offer deals. Please
visit https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp
to sign up and see more details on the programs and speakers.
The virtual spring Symposium is scheduled for June 7,
8 and 10th and shaping up to be a great program with 13 CFP CE
approved, including 2 Ethics and more CIMA CE pending. We are excited to announce that we have
secured Keynote speakers Graeme Newell with 602 Communications and Cameron
Huddleston author of Mom and Dad, We need to Talk: How to have essential
conversations with your parents about finances.
A couple updates from FPA national, they will once
again host the one-of-a-kind FPA Virtual Externship this summer. This virtual eight-week program, scheduled to
begin on June 7, is designed to show students and career-changers what it’s
really like to be a financial planner.
And it’s even a program for seasoned financial planners who are looking
to be inspired by new approaches to the practice of financial planning. Registration
is now open, and you can register and learn more about the program at https://fpaexternship.org/. The date for the 2-day virtual NexGen
gathering has been scheduled for August 12-13.
This unique and virtual experience will arm the NexGen community with
skills, lasting connections and practical tools. Please visit FPA NexGen Gathering
for more details and to register.
If you are a new member or a seasoned member who has
not attended a virtual meeting, I invite you to attend. You will not be
disappointed. We miss seeing our members
and networking; we are looking forward to the opportunity to gather in person
later this year and continue to grow our great profession.
Look forward to seeing you at our next event.
Best wishes,
Rose
