Dear
Colleagues:
January 31, 2014 begins the Year
of the Wood Horse according to the Chinese Zodiac.
I can think of no better way to
usher in the Lunar New Year than to attend the 2014 FPA NCA Winter Symposium at
the Dulles Hyatt. The Board of Directors
and Winter Symposium planning committee have implemented some very exciting
changes. We have morning and afternoon sessions available for networking and visiting with our sponsors. In addition,
we will be delivering a green conference experience with all of the
presentations conveniently accessible via Guidebook with mobile capabilities. To
further improve the member experience, we have coordinated with the event staff
at the Dulles Hyatt Conference Center to have wireless internet and power stations
available at the Attendee tables.
I am particularly excited about
this year’s theme “Beyond the Numbers:
Engaging Your Clients’ Hearts and Minds”.
Please join us for a full day of engaging and educational programs from
nationally recognized keynote speakers. Dan Candura will start off the day with
“Ethics for Everyone”. Carolyn McClanahan, CFP® will provide insight on
healthcare reform, followed by Bob Doll’s market outlook for 2014. After our
first networking break, Dr. Wade Pfau and Manish Malhorta will
present their complementary views for analyzing retirement income: a household
balance-sheet stock-based view and a lifetime cash-flow based view.
After our networking luncheon,
2014 FPA National President Janet Stanzak, CFP® will update us on all of the
exciting developments happening at FPA.
Carol Craigie, PhD from the College of Financial Planning will discuss
how to apply behavioral economic concepts to financial planning. Our next speaker Lori Epstein, JD will
present estate planning concepts for the modern family. Finally, wealth
psychologist Kathleen Burns Kingsbury will provide us with the knowledge and
insight to effectively deliver financial advice to couples.
On behalf of the 2014 Winter
Symposium Planning Committee, I believe that we have planned an educational
program that encompasses an integrated approach to helping our clients with
their financial planning and retirement planning. We are delighted to bring
many of the same speakers who presented at FPA Experience in Orlando to the
National Capital Area.
Join us for a day of education
and networking. We will end the day with a
drawing for three mini ipads! Don’t miss the excitement,
and don’t miss the CEU!
2 CFP, CIMA, VA Insurance, and MD Insurance Approved for Ethics! 6 CFP, CIMA,
VA Insurance and 4 MD Insurance Approved for the Symposium! 6 CPA CPE Offered!
We look forward to seeing you there! Register on-line now for the few remaining

Best
wishes for a happy and prosperous new year!
Rita
