Message
Old man winter came in with a bang this January
with a historic snow storm.
Unfortunately the snow arrived the day of our annual Winter Symposium,
altering the travel plans of three of our speakers and many members. But an outstanding effort by Peggy Nelson,
Helen Modly, our Symposium Chairwoman, and many other Board members, abled us
to offer remote access to our speakers and members with very limited time to
prepare. We were even able to provide CE
credits for qualifying speakers for all online attendees. One of the primary goals of the chapter is to
provide the best speakers and information to you, even under not so ideal
circumstances.
Hopefully the weather is not a problem for any of
our future events this year. Our next
event has quickly become one of the chapters most successful, the 3rd
Annual Career Fair and Professional Development Luncheon on February 19, at the
Dulles Hyatt. If you are considering
hiring an intern or associate advisor, this is a great event to find the right person. Last year we had over 70 applicants and 27
employers attend and we expect even more applicants this year. Applicants are college students from various
financial planning programs up and down the east coast, career changers and
professionals looking for new opportunities.
Be sure to register as an employer at www.fpanca.org.
If you are not in the market to hire, the Luncheon
on February 19 will offer a great opportunity to hear two seasoned
professionals, Elisa Buie and David Yeske, share great ideas on developing,
growing and running your business.
Join us March 17, for the Bethesda Country Club Program
and Luncheon which includes Media Training and Mary Beth Franklin discussing
Social Security and Medicare changes.
Media Training will provide you access to the FPA National media inquiry
system. The Media inquiry system
provides interview opportunities by national financial outlets such as the Wall
Street Journal, CNBC.com, Reuters, Bloomberg and many others. If you want to increase your media presence
this would be a great meeting to attend.
Be sure to visit the events page for all scheduled
meetings and to register at www.fpanca.org. If you are a new member, or a seasoned member
who has not attended a meeting recently, I invite you to attend one meeting
this year, and I will be sure to introduce myself. With our busy careers it is often hard to
make time for meetings. However, if you
attend I know you will not be disappointed.
Here is hoping for no more significant snow fall
this winter.
Look forward to seeing you at our next event.
Best Regards,
Dan
