Bryan Beatty, CFP®, AIF® President’s Message
I hope you all had a
wonderful summer!
It has been anything
short of a boring, slow summer. The fiduciary rule sees additional delays by
the Trump administration, but the industry continues to move forward changing
platforms, offerings, as well as, due diligence procedures for advice to consumers.
The CFP Board dusted off its own best practices and is changing the code of
ethics of the CFP Board. They recently ended an extended comment period on
these changes. The FPA sent its comment letter to the membership in regard to
the Code of Ethics changes proposed by the CFP Board. Take a moment to read
both here and here.
It seems that the Code of Ethics will be adopted as proposed. Oh, and then
there have been threats of war from Korea, and, well, then there is the circus
in Washington DC.
In September, we head
back into our luncheon CE programs on September 14th where we have
Mary Beth Franklin from Investment News to talk about Medicare Planning. As
well, we have an ethics course before that luncheon presented by Rita Cheng at
9 am. Register separately for each part of that day.
Join allied professionals
in the CFA Society of Washington for a networking and CE happy hour at the
Tower Club on September 19th at 4PM. Contact Jennifer Quigley, jennifer.quigley@sbsbllc.com 703-734-4618, for details on this event.
Next month on October 12th
our luncheon will be at Westwood Country Club with two presentations.
Emily Dupree from MFS will present Milestone Marketing and Paul Cieslik of
American Funds with a talk about The Advice Revolution.
Don’t forget to Do One Thing! Our Chapter Committees
always need your help and involvement! Please let us know which area you would
like to offer your assistance! I look forward to seeing you soon at our
upcoming events.
Best Regards,
Bryan
