President’s Message
Summer has come and gone, with major U.S markets at
more or less the levels they began the summer with back in June. While on paper it may have looked like an
uneventful summer, it certainly didn’t feel like it. As we enter September and kids head back to
school, advisors are getting back up to speed and gearing up for a busy fall
season.
The same is true in our chapter, as we have a number
of can’t miss events on the calendar over the next few weeks.
Kicking things off, we have a unique luncheon event on
Friday, September 13th at Kenwood Country Club. First we’ll have Steve Fox from American
Funds speaking to us about tax-efficiency in mutual funds. Following Steve, we
have Dan Hutson speaking to us about staying safe while in the hospital. She
will walk us through ways to prevent common hospital hazards, and resources we
can use to help friends, loved ones, and clients during a hospital stay.
On September 17th, Nexgen will have their
next study group at Cassaday & Co, and keep an eye out for the announcement
of the Nexgen retreat date and location very soon!
As we roll into October, we have a luncheon on October
3rd at Westwood Country Club focused on estate planning and
generational wealth. Our very own Gary
Altman, always a crowd pleaser, will be presenting on estate planning tactics,
followed by Doug Orton from MFS speaking on multigenerational wealth
management.
On the volunteer side, we have Metro Washington
Financial Planning Day on top for October 12th. We were thrilled to reach
an agreement with Virginia Tech to host at their Falls Church campus. This was
formerly a UVA facility, and Virginia Tech was enthusiastic about helping our
chapter continue to make an impact in the community. Spots are limited so sign up now!
Stay tuned for more CE, networking, and social events
later this fall. And as you start to plan out 2020, be sure to mark your
calendar for our Winter Symposium, January 24, 2020, at a new location – the
Tysons Marriott.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer, and I
look forward to seeing you all this fall. Thank you again for making this
chapter such a wonderful community.
All the best,
Chris
