PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello and happy February. This will be the last monthly newsletter that
you’ll be receiving from FPANCA. The
board has discussed that there is a need to revamp how we have been
communicating with our membership through the newsletter to make it more
effective and improve readership. Right
off the bat, it’s been decided that we will be moving to a quarterly
publication and we will be re-designing the format and layout. If you looked at January’s newsletter, you
may have noticed a design shift from what we have done in the past. It’s a step in the right direction and the
changes will continue to evolve throughout 2020. We will announce once the final changes have
taken place, but for now, please share any feedback or ideas with us to make
the Newsletter a bigger benefit to our members.
We had a sold out crowd in Tysons for
our January Winter Symposium to listen to some great educational content. Thank you to everyone that attended. We hope you enjoyed your time and found the
content useful. We also want to express
our appreciation for your participation in the polls we scattered throughout
the day, your feedback is important for us to learn from our events and
continue to improve upon them going forward.
For those that missed the day, we had some great thought provoking
speakers, a nice lunch menu and lovely raffle prizes from a few of our
sponsors. Altman and Associates gave a
bottle of scotch, Catalyst Funds gave a bottle of scotch and a few Yeti
tumblers, Nationwide had a “swag bag” full of gifts and Fairway Independent
Mortgage raffled off a 65” TV.
Congratulations to the winners and thank you to everyone that took time
to visit our sponsors. As we look to
plan future symposiums, it sounded like Tysons was a preferred location but the
actual venue and setup could be altered to accommodate the crowd a bit better and
allow for more eyes on the presentations.
Also at the symposium, we had the
pleasure of awarding of four Outstanding
Member Awards. Cal Brown won
the Lifetime Achievement Award and gave a great speech. Howard Pressman was the winner of our Norma
Severns Leadership Award. Melissa
Sotudeh won Planner of the Year and Kelley McNerney was the first recipient of
our new award for Emerging Leaders. All
of our winners were well deserving of the awards and we truly have many
outstanding members in our chapter.
In just a few short weeks, don’t miss
our annual Career
Day on February 21st in Reston. Registration will be closing soon. You’ll have the opportunity to meet many
talented students and job seekers, as well as network over lunch and happy hour.
On March
19th at Kenwood Country Club in Bethesda, we have Gary
Altman discussing the SECURE Act and Lisa Kirchenbauer presenting about “Becoming
an Intentional Business Owner”.
We are planning to hold a Happy Hour
in April and our Programs Directors, Cat and Carl, continue to work on planning
the rest of our programs for the year.
As always, we appreciate any and all
feedback that you have on how we can make the chapter better; you are welcome
to e-mail me directly at TrasborgP@cjmltd.com .
Best Regards,
Parker
