President’s Message
Rose Price,
CFP®
This past Memorial Day weekend, we honored those that
made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. As I reflect on this past year, I
thought of the challenges we faced due to COVID-19 - lockdowns, school closings,
offices closing, remote work, zoom meetings, vaccines and the list goes on. If
we step back and look at the big picture and think of those that we honor on
Memorial Day, we have so much to be grateful. I am grateful for our community,
the ability to continue our association, the opportunities ahead and the
ability to hold events in person. We
have missed seeing you and networking!
June will be a busy month with the virtual spring Symposium scheduled for
June 7, 8 and 10th. We have a great program with 13 CFP CE
approved, 2 Ethics and more CE pending.
We are excited to have secured Keynote speakers Graeme Newell with 602
Communications and Cameron Huddleston author of Mom and Dad, We Need to Talk. The last day to register is June 2; you will
not want to miss this great event!
Visit https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp
to register now.
It is here! Our first in person event in 15 months! We are looking forward to seeing you at our
Annual Charitable Golf classic on Thursday, June 24, at 1757 Golf Club that
raises funds for the Foundation of Financial Planning and our chapter pro bono
events. The event will have a shotgun start at 12:00. We will, of course, be following all
precautions and 1757 has several protocols in place. There is still time to register; you can
visit the event page https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp
Please visit the website for
opportunities to participate and sponsor.
July will bring our first in person luncheon. We will host a luncheon on July 15 at
Westwood Country Club with an 11:30 start. We will be sharing more details as we
confirm speakers. We cannot wait to see
you and catch-up.
We are very excited to announce a joint venture and
volunteer opportunity. The FPA NCA chapter has partnered with the University of
Maryland Global Campus to host a one-day virtual Financial Wellness Day. The event will be held on August 11,
2021. This program, a first of its kind,
will provide virtual, free, no-strings-attached financial planning information
to UMGC students, their families, and consumers across the country. Volunteers from FPA NCA will meet with
participants virtually for 15 minutes to answer and discuss a planning question
with a UMGC student in the CFP Program shadowing. This gives members an opportunity to mentor
the next generation of planners and work with those who may not be able to
afford our services. For more
information or to sign up, please reach out to Candace Lee at Board@fpanca.org.
A couple updates from FPA National: they will be
hosting their virtual Nextgen gathering in August and Congressional Advocacy
Day will be virtual with a fall date. The
date for the 2-day virtual NexGen gathering has been scheduled for August
12-13. This unique and virtual
experience will arm the NexGen community with skills, lasting connections and
practical tools. Please visit FPA NexGen Gathering
for more details and to register. This year the traditional FPA DC Advocacy Day
is being expanded to include its partners in the Financial Planning Coalition
(Coalition) CFP Board and National Association of Personal Financial Advisors
(NAPFA). The typical annual June two-day
Advocacy Day will be virtual and will be held September 29, 2021. If you have been interested in attending in
the past but the trip to DC was a concern, the virtual format will allow you to
attend. To register or learn more about
this great opportunity, please visit: Financial Planning
Coalition Congressional Advocacy Day: September 29
If you are a new member or a seasoned member who has
not attended a virtual meeting or were waiting for an in-person meeting, I
invite you to attend. You will not be disappointed. We look forward to seeing you at our next
event.
Best wishes,
Rose
Rose Price,
