President’s Message

Happy New Year!  How quickly 2015 seemed to pass.  With a new year upon us I am writing my first President’s Message for the best FPA chapter in America.  I feel privileged and a bit overwhelmed with the task of President but with the assistance of a fantastic Board, Past Presidents and the always reliable Peggy Nelson, I am sure to keep the ship sailing in the right direction.

Please join me in thanking Ken Robinson for serving as President in 2015 and Chairman in 2016 the next time you see him at a chapter meeting.  I have big shoes to fill.

As always we start the year off with some outstanding meetings.  Our annual Winter Symposium will be held Friday, January 22 at the Dulles Hyatt.  If you need Ethics credits for your CFP® this will be available before the Symposium from 6:30-8:30am.  Keep an eye out for regular emails containing details and bios of the Symposium speakers.  This year’s attendees will receive 6 CE credits for CFP®, CIMA, MD and VA Insurance, pending approval.

The 3rd Annual Career Day will be held on February 19, 2016 at the Dulles Hyatt.  The career fair is an excellent opportunity for hiring an intern or associate advisor.   The Career Day allows you to interview multiple candidates from colleges and universities on the east coast as well some career changers with great experience.  If you are not in need of a new hire, the Career Day will also offer a Luncheon with two outstanding speakers, Dave Yeske and Elissa Buie. They will be discussing Career Paths, Internships and Residency Programs.

In the New Year, please join us for one or both of our two scheduled Happy Hours on January 8 at Chima Restaurant in Tysons, and on January 22 following the Symposium at the Dulles Hyatt. These events provide a great opportunity to network, meet our Board members, and enjoy the opportunity to “Sip and Share” your favorite drinks while sharing your best business tips!

Registration is open now for all events at http://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp.

We want to congratulate the many Award Winners in our Chapter! Please find the following featured articles in this Newsletter detailing these Awards and our members: Our Chapter Outstanding Award Winners for 2016, Investment News Lifetime Achievement Award and Women to Watch winners, as well as the Schwab Impact winners, featuring many members from our chapter!

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year and I look forward to meeting you at our next event.

Best Regards,
Dan

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! As we approach the end of 2015 and the beginning of a new year, we have some outstanding events planned for the coming months.

We have a great luncheon program planned for Thursday, December 10th at Maggiano’s Restaurant in Tysons Corner. This is our final luncheon program for 2015 and it’s next week! The luncheon will feature the renowned economist, Professor Peter Morici. We will also vote on the 2016 board nominees during this meeting, so please click HERE for the details and register soon. Please note that this December meeting will begin at 11:30am, which is slightly earlier than our usual programs.

Our 2016 Winter Symposium is less than two months away! Helen Modly, chair of the symposium committee, has put together an impressive line-up of speakers.  The symposium, along with a separate early morning ethics session, will be held at the Dulles Hyatt on Friday, January 22nd. Please click HERE for all of the details, and register soon for one of the early bird rates!

Our FPA NCA Career Day event is scheduled for Friday, February 19th at the Dulles Hyatt. Career Day is a professional development event intended to connect hiring firms with financial professionals seeking employment. We will also provide educational content with speakers focused on career development issues. Please click HERE for the details and to register.

And now for some exciting news! Our chapter was the recipient of five national FPA Outstanding Achievement Awards for events conducted throughout 2014. We could not have achieved any of this without the hard work of the chapter board members as well your attendance, feedback and support. Thanks! Please see the details of these Outstanding Awards in this Newsletter.

Please visit our Community Calendar for a comprehensive list of upcoming events, and then add them to your calendar!

We need your feedback to help us make our programs even better. Please reach out with your thoughts and ideas. The contact information for our Board of Directors is listed HERE.  And please get involved by signing up as a volunteer for one of our committees for 2016. It is a great way to make an impact and to build new relationships with your colleagues.

Happy Holidays!

Ken
