President’s Message

Can you believe it’s October already?  I’m looking forward to enjoying the cooler weather, the changing foliage, and the variety of fall festivals that make our area so enjoyable this time of year.  FPA NCA also has some great October events planned, as well as a fantastic way for you to give back to the community...

On October 14, we will host our next luncheon program at Westwood Country Club in Vienna, VA, featuring Joe Richardson of Jefferson National.  Joe will present “The Great Wealth Transfer, Shifting Assets from Baby Boomers to Millennials.”  Joe will share his years of experience working with advisors to explain the opportunities and complexities of shifting assets from one generation to another.  In addition to our guest speaker, we will also have a panel discussion on succession planning.  The panel will consist of advisors who have bought and sold a practice, using both internal and external succession plans. This will be a great way to gain some helpful ideas directly from your own peers on how to structure your succession plan, so be sure to register for this event at www.fpanca.org/events.

On October 20, FPA NCA will host our first Octoberfest from 5-7pm at Tyson’s Biergarten!  This will be our first event at this new Tyson’s hot spot, and should be a great time with beer from around the world and traditional German food.  Beers and brats, what could be better than that?  “Prost!”

Metro Washington Financial Planning Day (MWFPD) will be held on Saturday, October 22, at GMU in Arlington. This event provides pro-bono financial planning to those in the DC Metro area who could not otherwise afford our services.  We anticipate attendance at over 300 people throughout the day, so this is your chance to give back to the community while promoting the profession we all love.  MWFPD can’t happen without our membership, so please register to volunteer at http://financialplanningdays.org/event/metro-washington-financial-planning-day-volunteer-info.

I look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Best Regards,

Dan

Dan Lash, CFP®, AIF®                      President’s Message

I hope you’ve enjoyed the rest of the summer and are ready for fall; I know I’m ready for cooler weather!  September tends to be a busy month with the kids going back to school, traffic in the DC area returning to normal, and work picking up as clients return from vacations.  September also offers some great local FPA events, so make sure to take advantage of these offerings…

On September 7, FPA NCA will hold a Member Happy Hour (which will include one hour of continuing education credit.)  Our speaker, John Dedon, of Odin, Feldman, Pittleman PC, has 30 years of experience and is a recognized expert in the field of estate planning. John will be discussing useful estate planning strategies for financial planners.  The event will be held at Bazin’s on Church Street, in Vienna, VA.  Space is limited, so register now at www.fpanca.org/events.

On September 14-16, the National FPA annual conference will be held in Baltimore.  This conference has some fantastic key note speakers, as well as many breakout and round table sessions which will certainly help planners of all stages gain valuable knowledge to better serve clients. Registration is currently open at www.fpa-be.org/register; receive $25 off of your registration fee by utilizing the code CHBE2016.

On September 22, we will host our next luncheon meeting at Bethesda CC.  Our first speaker will be John Anderson, Managing Director of Practice Management Solutions at SEI Advisor Net.  John will present “The Next Wave of Financial Planning and How to Compete in an Endlessly Changing Advice Market Place.”  Following John, Professor Don Williamson of American University, will discuss tax issues and how they may be affected by the upcoming election.

October will offer another luncheon meeting and a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community at the Metro Washington Financial Planning Day, Saturday, October 22, at GMU in Arlington. During this event we will be providing planning sessions to the under-served, so if you would like to volunteer, please send an email to board@fpanca.org.  More information about these October events will be forthcoming, but be sure to mark your calendars now!

I look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Best Regards,
Dan
