Bryan Beatty, CFP®, AIF®                             President’s Message

If you missed out on our March lunch program you missed a very interesting look at a way of thinking about economics. Roger Arnold talked about the four dominant issues that drive human interaction in the world today; put together, they constitute the global metanarrative. They are energy, technology, demographics and debt. Although each issue is distinct and the study of them can be esoteric, each has general themes, and the way they interact is critically important for all investors to become aware.
Summary: What’s good for America is good for the rest of the world.  A fairly optimistic look at the economy going forward.
I saw a few new faces at media training hosted by Ben Lewis. You can get a copy of the tips for working with the media by signing onto OneFPA.org and searching for PR resources or attending one of our future media training session usually held in March.
April gives us a small break from lunch meetings as tax season closes mid-month with a post-tax day Happy Hour with CE with Gary Altman of Altman and Associates at Maggiano’s in Chevy Chase from 5 ‘til 7ish pm. You can register here.
Baseball season is upon us and both the Orioles and Nationals look like they will be playoff caliber squads. I will be attending my 18th straight opening day game at Camden Yards. You can’t have a baseball start without thinking about the warmer weather and longer days which allow for rounds of golf. Please join us for our annual Charity Golf Outing that benefits charities such as the Foundation for Financial Planning and area scholarships for CFP programs. This year’s golf outing will be held once again at Westfield’s Golf Club in Clifton on May 3rd 2017.  You can register here. Sponsorships and 4-somes are going fast. Get the early bird rate before April 1st!
The June symposium is June 5th at the Dulles Hyatt. “Navigating Change in The Age of Uncertainty” will be our theme!
This year’s Spring Symposium will be divided into 2 sections: Helping Your Clients Navigate Change Successfully and will feature a keynote presentation by Wade Pfau, PhD, CFA Professor of Retirement Income at the American College and Director of Retirement Research at McLean Asset Management.  We’ll then put the focus on you as we explore Navigating Change in Your Own Practice featuring Bob Veres speaking about where the profession is going and where it needs to go.  We’ll have the usual sessions on technical topics and hopefully give you tools that will help you navigate 2017 and beyond! You can find out about the program and register here.
Don’t forget to Do One Thing! Our Chapter Committees always need your help and involvement! Please let us know which area you would like to offer your assistance!
I look forward to seeing you soon at our upcoming events.

Best Regards,
Bryan
