President’s Message

While we have braved considerable heat over the past month here in the DC area, markets have been relatively calm. August can often be a quiet month, both in our business and in our chapter.

This month we have one event – a social happy hour at Chima Steakhouse in Vienna on August 6th.  We’d love see you there, to share a drink, catch up with old friends, and network with colleagues.

We are especially proud of the pro-bono efforts of our chapter members this year, and all that you do to make the DMV region a better place.  We are hot on the heels of several successful events, including a Financial Planning Day on Capitol Hill, and a financial readiness clinic to benefit the Marines at Quantico in June.

The latter event was new for us, and we hope to repeat it in the future, given the fact that we had roughly three times as many volunteers as needed.  We would love to find other ways to help support the service members in our area, so please let the Pro Bono committee (or myself or Peggy) know if you have ideas for how we might do so.

In addition, we are thrilled that we will be able to again hold Metro Washington Financial Planning Day at Falls Church on October 12th, providing the community with pro bono planning and education.  Details will be up on our website shortly, but we are grateful to Virginia Tech for providing space to help us serve the community.  Please consider volunteering for this event.

Lastly, the Foundation for Financial Planning continues its ProBono4Cancer initiative, and is always looking for volunteers or donations to support the program.

As we move into September, we get a chance to restart our luncheon series.  We are putting the finishing touches on the first luncheon now, which is scheduled for September 13th at Kenwood Country Club in Bethesda.

We are also firming up the details on the rescheduled NexGen retreat – details for that will be out shortly.  This is a phenomenal event for the nexgen folks to get together with peers, make new connections, and talk about the future of financial planning. If you’re not a NexGenner but have team members who are, please encourage them to attend.

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy the tail end of summer, find some time to relax and recharge your batteries.  We appreciate all that you do to support the chapter and the community.

All the best,
Chris
