President’s Message
Ken Robinson, CFP®

Our annual Winter Symposium certainly kicked off the New Year with a bang last month.  The event was a huge success, and thankfully, we dodged the winter weather!  I hope you were able to attend.  Despite Punxsutawney Phil’s prediction of another 6 weeks of winter, we can all hope for an early Spring.  After all, the Super Bowl is behind us and baseball Spring training is less than a month away.  In the meantime, we have a lot of exciting events to look forward to in the coming weeks.

On Friday, February 27th, we are holding our 2nd Annual Career Fair at the McLean Hilton in Tysons Corner.  The event was an enormous success last year, and we are expecting another big turnout this year.  As a registered attendee, you will have the opportunity to interview recent graduates and seniors seeking employment opportunities as well as underclassmen looking for internships. Even if you are just exploring the possibly of hiring someone, you should sign up for this event because you just might find the perfect fit for your firm.  The Career Fair will include a luncheon with keynote speaker Mark Tibergien, who is one of the most sought-after speakers in the country on the topic of practice management and succession planning.  Space is limited, so click HERE and register soon to interview candidates.

If you do not plan to participate in the Career Fair, you can still sign up for and attend the luncheon as a stand-alone event.  And you do not want to miss this luncheon with Mark Tibergien on Friday, February 27th!  If you are interested in attending only the luncheon, please click HERE to register.

As we move into March, there are a couple of great events on the calendar.  The popular NexGen Study Group will convene again on Tuesday, March 10th at the offices of SBSB in McLean, Virginia.  If you are 36 or under, please click HERE to sign up for this outstanding opportunity to learn and network with your NexGen colleagues.

We also have our Media Training and Luncheon Event on Thursday, March 19th at the Bethesda Country Club.  We are very fortunate to have Ben Lewis, Director of Public Relations for the Financial Planning Association, conducting our Media Training this year. Ben is an excellent presenter as well as a wonderful resource for all public relations and media matters.  After Media Training is concluded, we will have our luncheon program with Helen Modly of Focus Wealth Management, Ltd.  Helen will be presenting on the topic of Inherited Retirement Plans and all of the potential problems arising from the inheritance of different types of retirement accounts.  Please click HERE to register for one or both of these events.

Please visit our Community Calendar  for a comprehensive list of upcoming events and then add them to your calendar! We have also published an entire list of events for the year in our February Newsletter, so please turn to page 4 to get everything on your calendar for the entire year.

As always, we need your feedback and suggestions to help us make our programs even better. So please reach out to us with your thoughts and ideas.  The contact information for our Board of Directors is listed HERE.  And please get involved and volunteer for one of our committees.  It is a great way to make an impact and to build new relationships with your colleagues.

Best Regards,

Kenneth C. Robinson, CFP®
