President’s Message

Ken Robinson, CFP®

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice spring weather over the past month.  Summer officially begins in just over three weeks!  Our chapter had some great events in May, including our 22nd annual Charity Golf Classic at the Reston National Golf Course.  The tournament was a huge success despite some challenges with the weather!  Fun was had by all and we raised a lot of money for charity.  Also in May, we conducted the 2nd annual FPANCA NexGen Retreat in Washington, DC, which was a wonderful event for the next generation of financial planners!

Our 2015 Spring Symposium is next Wednesday, June 3rd!  And it’s not too late to sign up, but hurry because registration will close Monday, June 1st at 6PM!  The event will be held at the McLean Hilton in the Tysons Corner area.  We have a great lineup of speakers featuring Ed Slott as our keynote speaker.  So if you have not registered, do it now!  Please click HERE for the details and to register.  We are also offering an ethics course prior to the start of the main symposium program.  The ethics course requires separate registration, so if you plan to attend please click HERE to sign up.

Coming up in July, we will have another gathering of our NexGen Study Group on July 21st at the offices of Sullivan, Bruyette, Speros and Blayney.  If you are 36 or under, please click HERE to sign up for this outstanding opportunity to learn and network with your NexGen colleagues.

Also in the month of July, we have a fantastic luncheon program scheduled for July 16th at Maggiano’s Restaurant in McLean. We have two excellent speakers lined up for this event to educate us on two very timely subjects.  We will begin with Lisa Kirchenbauer presenting “5 Essential Skills of an Exceptional Planner” followed by David Taube who will help us better understand “Financial Planning for Same Sex Couples After the Supreme Court Ruling.”

And finally, to close out the summer we will have our first ever FPA NCA Night at the Ballpark on Saturday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m. for the Nationals vs Rockies game at Nationals Park.  Our group will be seated together in right field just below the Family Picnic Area; we have reserved the family picnic area starting at 5:30 PM until the start of the game.  The ticket price is only $40 per person and includes game admission as well as a classic picnic package consisting of burgers, dogs, field greens, chips,
assorted soft drinks, and water melon wedges.  We have a limited number of tickets so once they are gone they are gone!  So register HERE soon!

Please visit our Community Calendar for a comprehensive list of upcoming events and then add them to your calendar!

We need your feedback and suggestions to help us make our programs even better. Please reach out to us with your thoughts and ideas.  The contact information for our Board of Directors is listed HERE.  And please get involved and volunteer for one of our committees.  It is a great way to make an impact and to build new relationships with your colleagues.

Best Regards,
Ken
