President’s Message

Rose Price, CFP®

Spring is in the air and we are seeing more vaccines being administered! Things are starting to look up!  We are looking forward to holding our first in person event with our Annual Charitable Golf classic on Thursday, June 24, at 1757 Golf Club.  The event will have a shotgun start at 12:00.  This will be our first in person event in over 15 months and will give us an opportunity to get outside and enjoy some golf and connect.  We will of course being following all precautions and 1757 has several protocols in place, as well.  We hope you will join us in our annual charitable event that raises funds for the Foundation for Financial Planning and our chapter pro bono activities.  Please visit the website for opportunities to participate and sponsor.

While we will be hosting the in-person golf event in June, we plan to keep our other events virtual at least through June as we continue to evaluate gathering in an indoor setting.  We will host two virtual events in April starting with Matthew Pallai, with our Gold Sponsor Harbor Capital Advisors, discussing the state of the economy and where Harbor sees opportunities and risks in 2021.  This program is approved for 1 CE credit.

On April 29th we will have a double header virtual community forum starting at 11:00 with Jim Cotchett, covering the topic of succession planning. Our Gold Sponsor, First Eagle Funds will bring us this program.  And at 12:00, Jan Holman, Director of Advisor Education with Gold Sponsor Thornburg Investments, will dive into the topic of Managing Legacy Wealth, approved for 1 CE.  Please visit https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp to sign up and review more details on the programs and speakers.   The virtual spring Symposium is scheduled for June 7, 8 and 10th and we have secured Keynote speaker Graeme Newell with 6302 communications. Graeme is an exciting speaker, and you will not want to miss this program in June!

If you are a new member or a seasoned member who has not attended a virtual meeting, I invite you to attend and you will not be disappointed.  We miss seeing our members and networking; we are looking forward to the opportunity to gather in person later this year and continue to grow our great profession.

Look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Best wishes,

Rose

It is hard to believe March is here already! Before we know it, we will be hosting our June Symposium.  We are seeing more and more vaccines becoming available and hope we will be able to meet in person sometime in 2021.   We closed out February with our first financial planning trivia event.  We had 20 members testing their planning knowledge and competing for varying gift cards.  All had a good time and we look to add this to our list of annual or semi-annual events.

Our March and April programs are on the website. Please visit our website at https://www.fpanca.org/events/event_list.asp to sign up. We will start the month with a NexGen open forum on March 9, discussing FinTech and a chance to win a Starbucks gift card during a few games of Financial Planning Bingo.  We have a great program on Thursday, March 18, starting at 11:00 that will provide 2 CFP CE credits.  Laurie Tomasello and Karen Brody from Right at Home will kick off the program sharing their decades of knowledge on senior care options and funding considerations. At 12:00 Mary Morris with Virginia 529, one of our gold sponsors, will discuss the new savings options, Tuition Track portfolio exclusive for Virginia residents.   On March 25, Sean Walker, a gold sponsor with American Century, will host our next community Forum discussing the next evolution of the ETF Industry.  This program will have 1 CFP CE.

Rose
